What a week! I spent the whole week feeling like I needed to let out a breath, and yesterday I finally got to do it some. Though I am not naive, I did allow myself to feel a sense of relief and joy that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be representing me.
A Time for Healing
President-Elect Biden’s speeches over the last week inspired hope in me; it is nice to feel that again. It actually inspired me so much that I created a new poster practicing my hand-lettering.
A Long Way to Go
In the United States, we have a long way to go. Donald Trump has shown us that we are divided, and easily divided if we are not paying attention. Fascism may have been stopped for now, but we can be certain they are back to planning for 2022 and 2024.
I have always felt an interest in government, though at times I have looked away from the politics of government because it can become too much to handle. It can make me feel out of control, beaten down, invisible, and confused.
It’s okay to look away sometimes, but I believe it is my duty to pay attention and maintain awareness and that is what I intend on doing and not listening to the people who try to tell me that because they perceive my voice as not mattering, that I should not speak my truth.
Our perception of reality does not equal the total reality. Just because who is President doesn’t immediately affect us, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care about who it does affect.
